VCL

VCL evaporation condenser

For limited ceiling heights & noise-sensitive system environment

The VCL is a radial counterflow evaporation cooler based on the pressure principle with a tube bundle design according to PED 97/23/EC for a power range from 180 to 1,380 kW (for single-cell models R22kW). It supplies the full nominal thermal capacity for a wide range of requirements and various refrigerants. VCL models can be installed indoors, minimize noise levels and are available for limited ceiling or enclosure heights. The VCL Series minimizes installation costs, operates reliably all year round and is ideal for noise sensitive environments.

Operating principle

Steam (1) flows through the condenser coil (2), which is moistened with water by the spray system (3). At the same time, the radial fan (4) blows ambient air upwards through the evaporative condenser (5). During operation, heat is transferred from the tube bundle of the internal circuit to the water and then to the atmosphere, while part of the water evaporates. The liquefied steam (6) then leaves the unit. The tower tub (7) or basin collects the water. The spray water pump (8) returns the water to the spray system. The warm saturated air (9) leaves the tower through the droplet separators (10), which remove the water droplets from the air.

Typical applications are:

  • Limited height
  • Tight spaces and installations requiring a single air inlet
  • indoor installations
  • Noise-critical installations
  • Dry operation in winter

Main advantages of the VCL:

  • Low height
  • Problem-free installation
  • Quiet

Main advantages in detail

The VCL is available in very low housing heights and is therefore perfectly suited for installation on roofs or in confined spaces. The fan section of the low models is located next to the case section to achieve models suitable for use in installations with problematic heights. Low models are available in heights from 1585 mm to 2560 mm.

VCL Evaporative Condensers are factory assembled and supplied in one piece to ensure easy lifting and installation on site. It offers high performance with a minimum operating weight. The installation is carried out safely on a steel substructure provided by the customer: either under the device or in the case of roof installations in the building itself. The one-sided air inlet allows the installation next to solid walls. Its radial fans can overcome the static pressure generated by an external duct system: This means that this type of device can also be installed indoors.

VCL units contain quiet internal centrifugal fans for minimal operating noise. The one-sided air inlet and the quieter rear side of the tower allow an optimal orientation of the unit towards noise-sensitive areas. The noise level can be further reduced with specially developed and tested silencers or water silencers.

Since the fan, motor and drive system are located outside the humid exhaust air stream, they are protected from moisture, condensation and ice formation. Therefore a year-round operation of the device is possible without any problems. The use of corrosion-resistant materials, such as the unique Baltibond hybrid coating, guarantees a long service life. A highly efficient Baltiguard drive system is available as an option, which on the one hand saves energy and is particularly quiet at low loads such as at night. It is also a perfect standby system in the event of an engine failure. On request, the VCL can also be equipped with a finned coil with steel fins for dry operation.

Evaporative cooling units minimize the energy consumption of the entire system due to their lower operating temperatures. This reduces operating costs and protects raw materials and the environment. Evaporative condensers provide lower condensing temperatures and consume significantly less energy than conventional air-cooled and water-cooled condensing systems.

The inside of the unit is easily accessible for adjusting the float valve, cleaning the strainer or rinsing the tub.
